Goodbye to TheMovieBlog

Edited: John Campea spoke candidly in a podcast about the issue that prompted me to leave so I took my post down out of fairness to him and his site.

Great New Trailers

There were some pleasant surprises at the Apple Movie Trailers site when I visited today. First is Crank. Crank stars Jason Statham and Amy Smart and centers around a hitman (Statham) who is poisoned and has only an hour to live. Needless to say, it looks like good, turn-off-your-brain fun. See the trailer here:

The second is called Children of Men. The plot involves humanity's end due to women no longer being able to bear children. This film includes Clive Owen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Julianne Moore not to mention Michael Caine. You can see the trailer here:

Hurricane Katrina Hospital Staff Charged with Murder

In this article, we learn that the Louisiana Attorney General Foti plans to charge a doctor and two nurses with 2nd degree murder due to the deaths of 4 patients at Memorial Medical Center during hurricane Katrina. Mr. Foti alleges that they administered lethal injections to 4 critically ill patients during the crisis.

Now, I'm certainly not here to make a judgment on whether they were right or wrong in doing this. Without being in those circumstances, none of us can possibly know. However, I think we should keep in mind the fact that these women are heroes. They stayed at that hospital at great personal risk to keep patients alive. How many lives did they save by staying at the hospital after the Mayor ordered an evacuation?

The other issue worth consideration is the fact that if they had fled from Katrina like many others (some 20-60% of the police force depending on who you believe), more patients than just these 4 would have died, but they would never have been charged with murder. That sets an interesting precedent for future disasters.

Why Does This Keep Happening in America?

This is pretty much a repeat of the previous post only with a different family:

If you don't want to read the article, the short of it is that a family and their teenage son didn't want to have the son go through chemotherapy a second time to treat Hodgkin's Disease. Instead, he's using alternative therapies. A Doctor reported them to Social Services, and a judge has now given the state partial custody of the teenager and may force him to endure chemo against his will.

What would you do if Doctors, Judges, Lawyers, and Bureaucrats oversaw all of the decisions you make for your child? Life and Death decisions...

What Freedom?

And I thought Bush's recent Constitutional abuses were bad...this really takes the cake.

How would I react in the same situation? Could I be peaceful as this woman has been? Let's hope for everyone's sake that we don't have to find out.
